An Introduction

     Greetings!  I think it’s about time that I introduce myself to you all!  You’re probably wondering who this new person is on the scene. 😊
    My name is Dana, and I live in Connecticut, USA where I was born and raised. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have two daughters, ages 22 and 8.

     I am a former veterinary surgical technician, anesthetist and office manager, which I did for 21 years.
In 2008 I retired and opened up my own dog walking/pet sitting service which I run and operate by myself.

     I met Sherinah through another charity I was involved with and we became fast friends. We are definitely kindred spirits, both filled with compassion for those who suffer.
I found my love for sponsoring from my parents. While growing up, my parents sponsored two children into adulthood through Compassion International.  I myself first became a sponsor in my teenage years. Up to date I have sponsored four children, two of which I still sponsor now. One through this ministry!
I was honored when Sherinah accepted my offer of help with her wonderful ministry.  I hope to be an aid and continue to help grow Sherinah’s New Hope For Children With Disabilities.
     You may have noticed that we now have a Paypal option to accept donations.  Because Paypal is not available in Uganda at this time, I offered to do for Sherinah, what I know others do for other certain charities in Uganda. I have set up the US account here, using my bank account and I will transfer all funds to Sherinah via Western Union. If anyone has any questions regarding this, please feel free to contact me. My thinking is that we will receive more donations and gain more sponsors since most people trust and love using Paypal.

It is both an honor and a pleasure to be here amongst you all.

God Bless -

Dana ❤️

Happy New Year from SNH!

After a year of welcoming two new babies to SNH staff members (Sherinah & Moses welcomed Shadrach in February, and Hannah & Eric welcomed Mateo in July), we are back!

We also want to introduce a new member to the SNH team, Dana: Dana is a former veterinary technician who now owns her own pet sitting business. She is married with two daughters. Dana has been sponsoring children since she was a young teenager and has passed the love of sponsorship on to her oldest daughter who also sponsors a child. She is very excited to be joining our team! Dana will be helping us with the web side of things, and she also created a PayPal account for SNH! She will be sharing more about that in January.

~~~
We also wanted to share some of the Christmas gifts that the children in SNH received in December 2017.
Juliet received bread and money for Christmas meal and a Christmas dress!
Paul, who was just recently sponsored, received 10 kgs of maize flour, 3kgs of beans, rice, sugar, bread and money for Christmas clothes and meals, thanks to extra help from his new sponsor!
Joshua received bread and money for Christmas meal and clothes. Joshua is still waiting for a sponsor.
Beautiful Harriet also received Christmas gifts from her sponsors.
Sisters Grace and Gloria, who are both sponsored, also received Christmas food and clothes.
And finally, Ikou and Ivan both received wheelchairs!
IDAW 2016
Last year, SNH was privileged to attending International Deaf Awareness Week (IDAW), thanks to the gifts of caring donors. SNH is hoping to send SNH assisted children who are deaf along with their caregivers to IDAW in the Lira municipality of northern Uganda.
In order to send the two children, a caretaker for each child, and two SNH staff members to guide the children and caretakers, a total of $300 US or 900,000 UGX is needed. This amount will cover their accommodations for the week.
To learn more about IDAW, click here. And to donate, please check out how to give via Western Union on the FAQ page.
School Fundraiser!
It has been a while since we updated the blog, but I have been selling handcrafts (made by Sherinah) to support the SNH children!
We would like to help those SNH children who are unable to pay for their school supplies! We also have a few medical needs and miscellaneous needs (i.e. transportation for the SNH staff to check in on the kids, food for one of the children who was abandoned by her parents with her three siblings, and pig feed).
The goal is to raise $300, where $150 will go towards the school supplies for 15 children, $50 to medical needs, and the remaining $100 towards the miscellaneous needs.
If 30 people can donate $10 each, these needs will be funded! Or you could purchase a handcraft and support SNH as well! Donations can be sent via Western Union and the instructions are here. For further questions, email Sherinah at sherinahnewhope@gmail.com
Christmas Party 2015
Thanks to all our donors, SNH raised all the money for the Christmas party! We wanted to share photos of the event with all our supporters. Look at the joy you brought to the faces of these kids and their families!
Thank you again for your support of SNH in 2015! We look forward to seeing how God leads SNH in 2016 and how SNH will be able to bless the families and kids in the ministry.
Christmas Party Fundraising
The Christmas parties for SNH in 2013 and 2014 were such a big hit and such a wonderful blessing to the children and families of SNH. So we are raising money for our 3rd annual Christmas party!
SNH anticipates close to 200 children and their care givers to attend and desire to bless each family with a Christmas meal (complete with cake)! SNH also desires to give Christmas gifts of bars of soap and mosquito nets to the children enrolled in SNH. Hence the goal is to raise $600 US for the Christmas party!
Please read the letter from our Director Sherinah to learn more:
To whom it may concern.
My name is Nakiyemba Shamim, aka Sherinah. I work at Nakaseke based charity called Sherinah's New Hope for Children with Disability Ministry (SNH) that provides children with special needs the opportunity to have access to education, health care, and all form of social services through child sponsorship and general donation from concerned people around the world. Most of those children come from low income families therefore it's a passion to help the celebrated Christmas in special way...last year's fundraising for Christmas was tremendously successful we raised funds and we were able to feed over 100 children and their care givers. This year we expect to feed more children due to the fact, we enrolled a number of new children who don't have a sponsor yet to date.
We have embarked on on fundraising campaign to help us us raise enough funds to be able to help more than double the number of kids last year. We would be delighted if you can help SNH to achieve its goals by donating a monetary donation. This year our goal is to raise $600 in which the 550 will go towards Christmas party and this will include Christmas meal, Christmas cake, 2 bars of soap for each of enrolled child, a mosquito net, plus $5 cash to each of enrolled child...the $50 will go towards the construction of the community church and a center where our children gather for our center days.
We are well aware that it may some time be difficult to convince people to donate especially when Christmas is close, but be aware that there there are many others who find themselves in worse predicaments. SNH will be happy to accept any form of help.
Please consider to helping SNH kids to enjoy the coming Christmas.
Also feel free to learn more about our work we do.
From SNH programme Director and child advocate.
We wish you and your family a very safe merry Christmas!
Best wishes.
Sherinah
P.S. Below are photos of our church that is under construction and we are still looking for funds to rehabilitate it.
Donations can be made via Western Union (instructions can be found on the FAQ page) and please email sherinahnewhope@gmail.com or contact us out on Facebook with any questions.
IDAW
Thanks to all the generosity of our donors, SNH was able to participate in the International Deaf Awareness Week! We hope you enjoy these photos of the event!
Sherinah shares a thank you for all the donors:
Greetings.
Thank you much for your recent generous gift to SNH, your willingness to donate to SNH plus all the efforts you did to help us find people to donate enabled us to participate in the international deaf awareness week.
Thanks to you, we managed to take 5 deaf children each with the care giver plus 4(four) staff members prior to an interpreter.
Your donation helped us to participate, have meals for 3 days, purchase of t.shirts as weekly uniform accommodation plus transport to and from.
Once again thank you so much for supporting us. God bless you.
Sincerely
Nakiyemba Sherinah
Director.
Thank you again for donating for SNH to participate in this event.
